Over the past 9 years I’ve been building brands using Instagram (including @smtofficial, @dropbottle and @the5th, which I’ve now exited). I’ve also grown my combined Instagram following to over 16 million followers (across 25+ accounts).
I’m here today to talk to you about one thing and one thing only — How to hold a Tag To Win Giveaway on Instagram.
This is because a ‘Tag To Win’ giveaway is still one of the most effective giveaway techniques on Instagram to quickly grow your Instagram following.
At The 5TH, with a single Tag To Win giveaway we were able to grow our Instagram following by 20,000 followers in the space of 24 hours, received over 80,000 comments tagging a friend on the post, and according to Iconosquare, we were the most engaged with brand profile on Instagram in the world that day #winning.
Tip #1: Consider your outreach message as an opportunity to build a close relationship with the influencer
Building strong working relationships with certain influencers can be hugely advantageous to the extent that some influencers may even end up reducing their rates when working with you or, the ultimate, post you for free. Some ways to go about building closer relationships with influencers are:
Tip #2: Include them in your brand story and vision
Try to make the influencer feel included in your brand story and vision as well as the problem you’re solving. You can do this giving them more detail around the ‘why’— why you have chosen them in terms of how they align with your brand and values. This is particularly powerful if you brand or campaign has a social cause or charitable aspect to it. It appeals to their humanity and makes them feel like they’re a part of something larger than themselves.
A Gifting Campaign is when you offer your product as a gift in return for a social media post
A gifting campaign (also known as an ‘unpaid collaboration’ or ‘product for post campaign’) is where you offer your product as a gift to an influencer in return for a social media post about your brand.
If you’ve read our post on the pros and cons of paid vs. unpaid campaigns, then you’ll be familiar with the fact that in unpaid campaigns, there is no guarantee that the influencer will post a product you sent to them. Kinda similar to PR where you send out hundreds of press releases and not every media publication picks them up.
So, how do you pull off a successful gifting campaign?
